Swimming and Diving Fall in Veale Classic Chamionship

Cleveland, OH - The Swimming and Diving Teams lost in the championship meet of the Veale Classic at Case Western this afternoon. The women lost to NCAC rival Wooster and the men were defeated by Case Western.

"This was a good test for us this afternoon," said Head Coach Mark Fino. We need to get more accustomed to competing on back to back days as we get closer to our mid season invitational. We competed well this afternoon and closed out our races strong. Next weekend presents us with another opportunity to compete on back to back days."

Sara Kadi turned in a pair of victories. She came from behind in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.66) and 100-yard freestyle (55.04) after trailing at the half way point in both races.

Senior diver Christine Martin won both one and three-meter boards. She turned in a score of 184.15 on one-meter and 212.60 on three-meter.

The team also had second place finishes from Jenny Meltz in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:18.68), Jordan Jancosek in the 50-yard freestyle (25.94) and Jane McIntyre in the 200-yard breastroke (2:41.29).

On the men's side Chris Pickens swam to a third place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:24.74).

First-year Rob McConkey took second place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.48) followed closely by teammate Luke Harrison (2:08.54).

Dylan Jordan and diver Jordan Attwood also turned in a second place performances. Jordan in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.81) and Attwood on the one and three-meter boards.

The team returns to action this Friday at home against Allegheny College at 6 p.m. The meet will be streaming live on the Oberlin College Athletics website.
