Box Score Oberlin, Ohio — The Oberlin College women's tennis team turned in a strong showing on its home courts this weekend, collecting nine singles victories and nine doubles wins at the Oberlin Invitational, held Friday through Sunday inside Heisman Field House.
"It was great to host the invitational at home and compete against a lot of high-level teams. I was really proud of the way our team competed and the potential they showed throughout the weekend." Said Head Coach Magda Stepnik
"We're continuing to build, and I'm excited to take this momentum into ITAs this weekend."
In singles action, Anastasia Cheng led the way with two victories. Cheng opened with a 6-2, 0-1, retirement win over Tiffany's Anisha Sivakumar before earning another straight-set victory, defeating Otterbein's Raina Smith, 6-2. She also posted a 4-0, 4-1 win over Ohio Northern's Lauren Okrainec.
Eva Lopez also recorded multiple singles wins, defeating Otterbein's Sasha Bondartsuk, 6-2, 6-1, before adding a 6-2 victory over Niya Bell. Lauren Hatfield battled past Tiffany's Erna Brdarevic, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6, while Freya Rahm earned a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 comeback victory over Jessica Carley.
Oberlin also picked up singles wins from Rachel Allen, who defeated Otterbein's Breanna Ball, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4; Olivia Guzman, who topped Niya Bell, 6-3, 7-5; and Hannah Soong, who defeated Nora Pixler, 6-3, 6-4.
The Yeowomen added nine doubles victories throughout the weekend. Guzman and Grace Moloney earned three wins as a pairing, including a 6-2 victory over Wooster's Lauren Richmond and Cameron Carlson, a 6-0 win over Capital's Kinley Neff and Elena Pahs, and a 6-4 triumph over Otterbein's Raina Smith and Brooklyn Murlin.
Soong and Hatfield also collected two victories, defeating Ohio Northern's Caroline Allen and Leah Schleibaum, 6-2, and Capital's Scarlett Stephens and Stephanie Makris, 6-4. Rachel Allen and Anastasia Cheng posted a 6-3 win over Otterbein's Breanna Ball and Niya Bell, while Hannah Soong and Arina Kuzmina defeated Nora Pixler and Avi Gullion, 6-2. Allen and Freya Rahm closed out their weekend with a 7-5 victory over Ball and Bell.
The Crimson and Gold return this weekend as they travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the ITA Regionals Friday, September 25 through Suday, Septmeber 27
