Oberlin, Ohio – Head Swimming & Diving Coach Alex de la Peña has announced the hiring of Ting Chen as the Diving Coach ahead of the 2026-27 season. 

"I'm excited and honored to join Oberlin College as the diving coach. I look forward to working with our scholar-athletes, helping them grow and succeed, and being part of the Oberlin community," Chen adds. "I'm excited for the season ahead and what we can accomplish together."

Chen joins Oberlin after serving as the Diving Coach at Youngstown State for six years. Before Youngstown, she served as a graduate assistant diving coach at Indiana State for two seasons. Chen has also held coaching stints at RipFest Diving Academy as a summer camp diving coach as well as a diving coach at Southern Illinois, where she coached an athlete to one-meter and three-meter Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) titles, MVC Diver of the Year honors, and an NCAA Championship berth.

An elite competitor, Chen won gold in the one-meter and silver in the three-meter at the Asian Junior Diving Championships hosted in China in 2002 before winning the Synchronized Diving Three-Meter Springboard at the Chinese National Junior Championships in 2003 and a runner-up finish in the Team event at the Chinese National Diving Championships in 2005.

A two-time First-Team All-MVC selection, Chen earned her Bachelor of Physical Education from Wuhan Sports University in 2012 before earning a Bachelor of Arts in University Studies from Southern Illinois in 2015. Chen went on to complete two master's degrees, first earning her Master of Science in Physical Education from Indiana State in Spring 2019 before completing a second Master's degree in Exercise Science from her alma mater in Fall 2019.
