New Orleans, Louisiana – Seven members of the Oberlin College track & field team earned United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes All-Region honors, announced by the USTFCCCA last week.

The top-8 individuals in each event, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams, from each region at the conclusion of the indoor track & field season prior to the NCAA Championships, earn All-Region distinction.

Helping the Crimson and Gold to a third-place regional ranking in the distance medley relay (DMR) with an overall time of 10:11.22 (10:03.03 converted time to a banked track) and earning All-Region honors, Piers Shirk, Armand Andry, Cooper Tanski, and Liam Newman raced to a third-ranked time at the Wartburg Final Qualifier, placing second in the heat and finishing eighth overall in the event.

Leading off for Oberlin in the 1,200m leg, Shirk clocked in a split of 3:04, helping the Yeomen off to an early lead in the race. Shirk handed off to Andry, who took on the 400m segment, posting a time of 49.97 and maintaining the top position for Oberlin. Passing the baton to Tanski, the rookie raced to a 1:55.39 800m split. Anchoring for the Crimson and Gold in the 1,600m, Newman crossed the line with a 4:20 split, leading the team to a 10:11.22 overall time.

Receiving All-Region accolades in two events, Namu Makatiani ranked first in the Great Lakes Region in the triple jump, launching to a mark of 14.91m and defeating his own program record at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships and earning the championship title. During the same championship weekend, the senior ran 8.13 in the 60m hurdles preliminary round, breaking his own school record to rank fourth in the region.

Tying for eighth in the region in the women's long jump, Anna Fritz snagged her first All-Region laurel. Shattering a 10-year Oberlin record with a leap of 5.58m at the All-Ohio Championships, the senior grabbed the All-Ohio women's long jump title.

Finishing second in the Great Lakes in the 800m, Ella Wozek earned her ranking at the Polar Bear Final Qualifier to collect her first All-Region honor. Running a personal-best of 2:16.13, which ranks second in program history, the senior's performance converts to a 2:14.58.

With the 2026 indoor track & field season in the rearview, the Crimson and Gold look ahead to the outdoor season. Opening the season with their home invitational, the Bob Kahn Invitational is scheduled for Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, with events kicking off at 1 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
