Westlake, Ohio – For the first time in her career, the North Coast Athletic Conference has named Oberlin College women's tennis sophomore,
Eva Lopez, Athlete of the Week.
"Eva leaves her heart on the court every time she competes." Head Coach
Magda Stepnik continues, "This weekend, she fought hard and found a way to win two very challenging matches. She never gives anything away for free and competes fearlessly from start to finish. I'm incredibly proud of her and this well-deserved recognition as Athlete of the Week."
Lopez opened her season in dominant fashion, going undefeated to lead Oberlin to a 4-3 victory over Rochester in the team's home season opener.
Competing at No. 4 singles, Lopez earned a straight-sets win, 6-4, 7-6 (3), showing composure in a tightly contested second set. She also teamed with
Scarlett Kingston at No. 1 doubles to secure a 6-4 victory, helping set the tone for the match.
Perfect in both singles and doubles, Lopez's strong sophomore debut played a pivotal role in clinching the season-opening win.
The team heads to Ohio Northern for their next match on Saturday, February 21.
