Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College Black Student-Athlete Group (BSAG) has announced their annual Black History Month Hype Game will take place this Wednesday, February 11 during the men's and women's basketball doubleheader.
"BSAG is really excited to host our Black History Month Hype Game again this year." Co-Chair
Alira Allen, a senior on the volleyball team, states, "This year's game has a lot of new elements and is really going to bring the community and the high school around us together, and create a sense of camaraderie between student-athletes, coaches, and staff. It's fun to bring the community together in one space."
In addition to food and desserts for fans, both games will feature special halftime activities. At the women's halftime, to celebrate last week's
National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Oberlin girls basketball team will play an intersquad scrimmage. During the men's halftime, all fans will be invited to participate in a halfcourt putt-putt challenge with the chance to win Oberlin swag.
Alongside the food and desserts that will also be provided to fans, BSAG will have a special table with gear and swag available with a donation. Throughout the year, BSAG has been volunteering across the local community and raising funds to support youth athletics. To date, BSAG has raised more money in their efforts than in any year since the organization's inception.
"This year, BSAG really wanted to focus on giving back to the community that serves and supports us." Allen adds, "While we host study tables, provide tutors, and mentor high school student-athletes, we want to return that love back to the Oberlin community and directly support Oberlin's local youth sports."
Women's basketball is set to begin the night's festivities, tipping off against No. 8 Denison at 6 p.m. The Yeomen will follow at 8 p.m. against RV John Carroll, or 30 minutes after the completion of the women's game.
