Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Dominates in Shutout Victory

Harrisonburg, Virginia – Hitting the road for a pair of away matches this weekend, the Oberlin College field hockey team shut down EMU for a 4-0 win on Saturday. Behind their first win of the year, the Crimson and Gold move to 1-1 on the season.

Five different Obies got in on the scoring action, led by Clare Kammeier just 3:24 into the match. Leila Burki found Kammeier inside the arch to put Oberlin on the board. The forwards continued to hound the Royals' defense, with another trio of shots, coming off the sticks of Burki and Bella Tilford.

Looking to extend their lead, the Crimson and Gold earned a penalty corner at 8:11. Taking the corner, Elly Scheer passed it off before receiving it again from Tilford for the Yeowomen's second goal.

Oberlin carried their pace into the second quarter, scoring just 40 seconds into play when Tilford added to her point total with a goal of her own. Less than a minute later, Johana Horvath got in on the action with her first goal of the season.

The Crimson and Gold offense continued to dominate the game through the second half, outshooting the Royals 9-3 and controlling the time of possession. Willow Maniscalco made her season debut in the final quarter of action, keeping EMU off the board and completing the shutout that Janny McCormick began.

"I'm really proud of the way our team came together today. We've been working hard on key areas in practice, and it was exciting to see that work translate into a strong performance on the field." Head Coach Jess West reflects on her team's win, "We had two players score their first collegiate goals, which was a great moment for them and for the team. Most importantly, we played as one unit, and that made the difference. We're looking forward to carrying this momentum into our matchup with Sweet Briar tomorrow."

Field hockey plays again tomorrow, Sunday, September 7, when they play the Sweet Briar Vixens. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
