Box Score Baltimore, Maryland — The Oberlin College women's tennis team kicked off their spring break with a bang as they took down Goucher College 6–1.
As the Gophers could only field 4 players, Oberlin started doubles play already up 1–0 and needed just one more match to grab the doubles point. The early advantage didn't end up meaning anything for the Yeowomen, as fourth-year
Anna Pastore and first-year
Hannah Soong breezed past Goucher's No. 1 team, Lucy Ingraham and Eliza Abady, 6–2, while Oberlin's No. 2 duo, second-year
Rachel Allen and first-year
Olivia Wollner, cruised to a 6–1 win against Shelby Meek and Sarai Silveira.
Only four singles matches were contested due to Goucher's lack of players, which automatically put Oberlin at a 3–0 advantage before singles play began.
Goucher's only point of the day came at the expense of Allen, who lost 6–3, 3–6, 10–6 to Abady in the #2 singles match. Oberlin dropped just six games in the other three matches combined.
In the #1 slot, Pastore dismantled Ingraham, 6–0, 6–1, for her fifth singles victory on the season. Second-year
Freya Rahm fought through a tough first set against Goucher's No. 3 Meek before finishing strong for a 6–3, 6–0 win. First-year
Scarlett Kingston wrapped up the win for Oberlin with a 6–2, 6–0 victory over Sarai in the No. 4 match.
The Yeowomen will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Virginia Beach for a 2 pm cap against Virginia Wesleyan University.
