Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field team is proud to host the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, beginning this Friday, February 28, at 12 p.m.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to host the Championships!" Assistant Head Coach
Izzy Alexander adds, "Thank you to our many alumni and supporters who have made the track resurfacing possible; it is because of you that we can compete to our highest potential and host at the biggest stage."
This season, the Yeomen have broken a plethora of school records this season, beginning with
Namu Makatiani in the 60m hurdles. In the season opener, Makatiani clocked an 8.29 in the event, shattering the 35-year-old record of 8.53 (converted). The junior rewrote history again later in the season, at the All-Ohio Championships earlier this month. Marking a 14.41m distance in the triple jump event, Makatiani now holds two indoor records.
Furthermore, the men's distance medley relay team of
Piers Shirk,
Cole Fuller,
Treyce Wood, and
Walter Moak turned in a 10:00.08 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet. The team rewrote their own school record, which they set at the same meet last year.
DMR anchor Moak, added the team's most recent record of the year, coming in the seldom run 1,000m race. One of the oldest marks standing, Moak dashed through the event in 2:28.71 to overtake Todd Portune's 2:32.11 from 1980.
"We've already broken records in the Heisman Fieldhouse this year, and we get to bring that momentum and energy from our biggest fans and alumni to our Championship Meet this weekend. We have the opportunity to win crowns in multiple events, and many more opportunities than that to do our individual and collective absolute best." Head Coach
Ben Wach continues, "This is going to be an incredible weekend, and I cannot wait to watch our team hit the ground running, jumping, and throwing."
Being a two-day championship, the Crimson and Gold will compete on both Friday and Saturday. Friday's field events will start at 12 p.m., with track preliminaries following at 2:30 p.m. Saturday will also begin with field events at 10 a.m. Track events will take place at 2:15 p.m.
