Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College swim and dive team took on day three of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Friday evening.
Isaac Viviano broke his own school record,
Erik Fendorf earned another podium finish, as the Yeomen sit in fourth with 681 points. The Yeowomen also had a great showing as they sit steady in fifth with 559.5 points.
After setting the 100-yard breaststroke school record last year, Viviano broke it yet again with a time of 56.21. The senior earned sixth overall and came within less than a second of an NCAA B-Cut. Teammate
Finley Barber finished in 57.91 for ninth. Rookie
Soomin Yoo turned in a 1:07.83 on the women's side of the race.
Claiming his third medal of the Championship, Fendorf earned third in the 100-yard butterfly with 48.91.
Myles Felt raced in the B-Finals, where he finished 13
th in 51.52. On the other side of the race,
Ronen Baron snagged a new personal best of 1:01.36 to finished in 16
th.
The 400-yard IM race saw
Gretchen Lotter stretch to break the five-minute barrier for the first time with a time of 5:54.98. For the men,
Miguel Siwady also PR'd in 4:08.70 to claim 11
th.
Leo Powers also swam in the men's B-Finals, where he clinched 15
th in 4:15.59.
Elinor Frost led the Yeowomen in the 200-yard freestyle race, where just edged out her PR from last year's conference finals with 1:59.43. With a time of 1:40.76,
Chahine Saïd cruised to sixth, beating his next competition by almost four seconds.
Finishing at 1:00.15 in the A-Finals,
Ava Peyton grabbed ninth-place in the 100-yard backstroke event.
Yasmeen Boulakandal and
Nyrobi Whitfield also clocked in top-20 times with 1:03.75 and 1:05.00, respectively. In the men's 100-yard backstroke, Felt came just a second shy of the podium, touching the pad at 50.58 for fourth.
James Moll followed shortly after his teammate at 51.36 for sixth.
In the relays, Oberlin's 'A' team of Peyton, Frost,
Ari Marrero, and Whitfield had a fantastic race of 1:29.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. With a fourth-place finish, the grabbed 58 points for the Crimson and Gold.
The Yeomen's relay team of Fendorf, Felt, Powers, and Moll clocked in at 1:23.76, just .01 shy of the program record. The team moves to second-overall in program history.
Collecting a combined 37 points,
Winnie Wood and
Elizabeth Huettig competed in the women's 1-mtr dive event. Although falling just short of the finals cut, Wood notched 259.60 points to finish 11
th, while Huettig set a new personal best with 225.65 points to follow her teammate in 12
th.
Oberlin prepares for the final day of the NCAC Championship tomorrow, Saturday, February 15. Prelims begin at 9 a.m., followed by diving. Finals are set to begin at 6 p.m.
