New Orleans, Louisiana - Senior
Liam Newman of the Oberlin College men's cross country team is one of 16 runners in the North Coast to earn United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors, announced by the USTFCCCA office on Monday.
"I'm so grateful for all of the support I've had in my time running cross country at Oberlin from my coaches, teammates, and family," Newman adds. "I raced as well as I did because I have such a solid foundation of people who care. I'm really excited to carry that support and the momentum of being All-Region into the track season."Â
By finishing among the top-35 finishers at one of the ten regional sites, Newman earned his first selection to the All-Region team. Finishing 19th overall at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship, hosted in Louisville, Kentucky, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, the Washington native crossed the line with a 20-second personal-best 8k time of 25:38.9.Â
"Liam's 19th-place finish is the second-highest finish at Regionals on our men's side in the past 10 years," Head Coach
Izzy Alexander remarks. "There are also fewer than 10 Oberlin athletes who have run an 8k faster than Liam in the past 15 years."
Newman and the rest of the cross country team will shift their attention to the indoor track & field season, set to begin in early December.Â
