Terre Haute, IN - The Oberlin College cross country teams contested themselves against elite competition at the John McNicholas Invitational at the famed La Verne Gibson Course in Terra Haute Indiana.
In a meet that featured a plethora of Division I schools and highly-ranked schools across all three divisions, Oberlin was able to show well on a big stage. Running in the men's open portion of the meet, Oberlin placed 21st out of 27 teams with 600 points while the women's team was 17th out of 23 teams with 509 tallies.
It was senior
Jonah Barber who led the men's team efforts by placing 116th overall in the 385-runner field as he completed the 8K trek in 26:12.3 while fighting through a heavy thick fog.
Sophomore
Piers Shirk followed with a lifetime-best mark of 26:19.7 to place 129th, while
Johnny Ragsdale completed Oberlin's top three in 27:06.3 to place 207th.
Sophomore
Will Gordon's run of 27:18.6 was good for 228th, while senior
Danny Markey was close behind in 27:21.3 to end four spots back.
Oberlin's top two displacers were first-year
Daniel Beyda, who clocked in at 27:51.8 to place 268th, while junior
Charlie Endres came through the chute in 28:20.3 to end 293rd.
Senior
Sage Serraino was the first finisher for the women's team, completing the 6K journey in 24:20.1 to place 111th. Classmate
Caleigh Lyons wasn't too far behind, ending in 130th place with a mark of 24:33.9.
Junior
Amber Borofsky completed the team's top three in 25:16.4, finishing 179th overall out of 299 runners. Fellow junior
Ella Wozek ended inside the top-200 at 197th with a time of 25:36.9. Sophomore
Logan Lane completed Oberlin's top-five in 26:43.4, placing 234th.
First-year
Samantha Soto turned in the best time of her young career, finishing as the team's top displacer in 27:04.5, which put her in 242nd place. Senior
Camila Ciembroniewicz was top spots back in 27:06.4, while newcomer
Solana Pearl was on her coattails with a collegiate-best run of 27:09.2 to place 247th.
Oberlin cross country will be back in action on Friday, October 4 at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational.
