Indianapolis, Indiana - The Oberlin College men's cross country senior Walter Moak qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, as announced by the national office on Sunday evening.

Moak received an at-large bid into the national field following his performance at last weekend's NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet where he ran a time of 25:06 to place 10th, earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors along the way.

Moak is no stranger to national meets, as he first qualified for the Cross Country Championships two years ago. He also competed at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships last May, coming away as a Second-Team All-American finisher.

At his first NCAA Cross Country Championships, Moak ran a time of 27:13 to place 254th. This time around, Moak wants more.

"I'm thrilled I could turn my season around after missing time due to injury," Moak said. "This year, I know what to expect at the national meet, and I'm confident I'll improve my result from last time."

"Walter ran a great race and qualifying for nationals is a very earned achievement," Head Coach Izzy Alexander said. "His main goal going into regionals was to take a risk during the race, knowing it could be his last cross country race. About halfway through, he made the bold decision to move into fifth place and stay in one of the top positions as long as possible. It paid off and his tenth place finish and nationals qualification is rewarding because he ran the best possible race he could have run on that day."

The men's 8,000m race will blast off on Saturday, November 23, at 12:00pm on the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
