GRANVILLE, OH- On Friday, the Oberlin College men's and women's track and field teams began competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Denison.

Abby Cannon and
Walter Moak headlined the first day of competition, the pair took home the crowns in their respective events. After one day of competition, the Yeowomen sit in fourth with 42 points, while the Yeomen earned 24 points to sit in eighth.

In a day mostly filled with field events,
Jake Jarvis placed third in the men's long jump, going 6.83m (22-5.00) for the All-Conference finish.
Namu Makatiani came up short in the same event, jumping 6.79m (22-3.75) to finish fifth overall. On the women's side of the event,
Anna Fritz finished fifth after jumping 5.05m (17-0.50).

After taking second in the heptathlon last weekend, fourth-year
Hayden Hill continued her tear on the NCAC with a third-place finish in the high jump event. Hill cleared 1.60m (5-03.00) to grab a spot on the podium.

Notching the first crown of the meet for the Crimson and Gold, Cannon threw 39.90m (130-11) in the women's discus throw for a blue ribbon finish. This marks the first time Canon has won the discus title after finishing second last year.

Oberlin's success continued on the track when Moak cleared the playing field in 9:09.64 to win the men's 3,000m steeplechase event. Now a back-to-back champion in the steeplechase, Moak has finished in the top-two in every year of his career.
John Ragsdale came in just behind his teammate, clocking in at 9:51.11 for sixth place.

Rounding out the first day of the NCAC Championships, fourth-year
Eliza Medearis brought home silver in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:22.81. The senior finishes her steeple career with consecutive All-Conference finishes.Â

Many other athletes made finals after running preliminary rounds today, highlighted by
Kambi Obioha and
Cole Fuller, who both cleared their competition in the 800m and the 400m hurdles events, respectively. The NCAC Championships will continue tomorrow, Saturday, May 5 with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events set to start at 2:15 p.m.
