Granville, Ohio - The final North Coast Athletic Conference Athletic Conference Championship meet for head coach
Ray Appenheimer concluded on Saturday with the Yeomen taking fourth place with the women's team ending in sixth.
The men's team totaled 119 points with the women's squad totaling 89 team points at the event. However, Oberlin still had two individual honorees as
Cole Fuller was named NCAC Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year while senior
Abby Cannon took home Field Athlete of the Year laurels. Fuller earned the praise for his school-record run in the 400-meter hurdles as he claimed the conference crown in 53.60 to break Jerry Choi's mark of 53.71 that has stood since 2014.
The day started with the triple jump with sophomore
Namu Makatiani claiming the conference crown with a mark of 47-10 (14.58m), which moved him into 14th in the nation in the event.
Hayden Hill, who has been a massive point-producer for the Yeowomen, was fourth on the women's end with a career-best clearance of 34-11.25 (10.65m).
Cannon followed with her second win of the weekend as her heave of 159-06 (48.62m) in the hammer marked her second triumph of the weekend. Fellow senior
Isaiah Schuham-Anders took fourth on the men's end in 160-09 (49.01m).
In the opening 4x100 relay, the Yeomen grouping of
Jake Jarvis,
Reese Hyatt, Fuller, and
Sam Fechner took second place in 42.52, adding eight points to the team total.
Competing in her final conference meet, senior
Margo Lee clocked in a personal-best time of 4:48.53 to place fifth in the 1,500 meters.
Makatiani followed with a second-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19.
Hill continued to add to her long list of accomplishments, placing third in the 400-meter dash, adding All-NCAC honors with a career-best time of 58.96. The Yeomen picked up nine points in the event as Sam Fecher was fourth in 48.95, while first-year
Armand Andry took sixth in 50.66.
Nine points were added to the women's team total in the 800 as
Ella Wozek finished fourth in 2:20.06 with junior
Sage Reddish placing one spot back in 2:20.97. The All-NCAC performances rolled on in the men's 800 with junior
Kambi Obioha taking third in 1:52.54.
In the closing 4x400 relay, the foursome of Fuller,
Treyce Wood, Andry, and Obioha ended second in 3:18.41.
Select members of the track and field team will continue their season at the Baldwin Wallace University Harrison Dillard Invitational on Thursday and Friday next week.
