Yeomen Survive Scare at Kenyon

Box Score GAMBIER, OH- Locking in their second sweep of the season, the Oberlin College men's basketball team took down Kenyon 59-57 on Wednesday night. The Crimson and Gold improve to 14-10 on the season and 8-7 in NCAC play.

After a sluggish start to the game, Andrew Gannon got the Crimson and Gold rolling with a three-pointer to give the Yeomen a 6-5 lead. It was a pair of back-to-back threes from Dimitrije Radusinovic and Anastasis Spyroglou that propelled Oberlin on a 16-4 run, capped off by a Robert Millard trey. Zach Smith notched Oberlin's fifth triple in ten minutes, as the Crimson and Gold cruised to a 27-14 lead.

Slowing the pace of the game, Oberlin Radusinovic scored the lone basket over the next five minutes, while the defense held Kenyon without a point. The Owls' Anthony Testa broke the drought with a step-back three-pointer, but the Yeomen still savored a double-digit advantage.

Gannon got Oberlin back in the action with a floater at 3:59, before hitting another just a minute later. On the heels of an Asaan Snipes-Rea layup, the Owls hit a buzzer-beater to cut the Yeomen's lead to 40-27 at the half.

Storming back from an unsavory first half, Kenyon start the second period on a 8-0 run. Milun Micanovic hit a free throw to break up the run, but the Owls picked up right where they left off with another long run. Now on the wrong end of a 46-41, Snipes-Rea got the Crimson and Gold started on a run of their own, that would las seven minutes and regain Oberlin's at 54-46.

Kenyon climbed their way back into the game, bring the score to 57-54 with just under two minutes to play. Disallowing any baskets from the Owls, Oberlin looked poised to win the game. With five seconds remaining, the Yeomen committed a foul against Kenyon. Hitting his first shot at the charity stripe, Kenyon's Connor Moss could cut Oberlin's lead to one with another make. Missing the second attempt, Will Bousquette III rebounded the ball before Zach Bronson took a foul with three seconds remaining. Bronson went 1-2 to push Oberlin's lead back to three.

With just 1.4 seconds remaining, Snipes-Rea committed a foul against the Owls' Moss. Moss hit both of his free throws, but it was too-little too-late as Oberlin scored another point of an ensuing free throw. The Yeomen hung on to win the nail-biter 59-57.

Oberlin concludes their regular season this Saturday, February 17 in a road match against Ohio Wesleyan. The Yeomen tip-off against the Battling Bishops at 3 p.m.
