Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College track and field team fought through rain and high winds on Saturday, finishing off the two-day Bob Kahn Invitational.
Before a 1:20 weather delay, the teams were able to complete some of the field events which included the men's triple jump where Oberlin claimed spots two through four. Leading the contingency was first-year
Namu Makatiani as he took second place with a mark of 44-02 (13.46m). Junior
Jake Jarvis was third in 43-02.25 (13.16m), while senior
Zack Lee was fourth at 42-10.75 (13.07m).
In a deep women's discus field, Oberlin had three finishers within the top-8 placers. Junior
Abby Cannon led the way with a toss of 117-11 (35.95m) to place fifth, while seniors
Shayla Keegan (110-08 / 33.73m) and
Victoria Blair (107-05 / 32.75m) ended seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior
Chilly Wallace bested a field of nine other competitors to win the women's triple jump with a clearance of 36-08.50 (11.19m) which currently ranks eighth in the country. Sophomore
Camila Ciembroniewicz added another victory, topping a field of 19 in the 800-meters in 2:23.15. In the men's 800, sophomore
Kambinachi Obioha was second in 1:58.21.
In the first individual running event of the day, Yeomen sophomore
Walter Moak won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:51.18, while rookie
Liam Newman took third in 10:17.10. On the women's side of the event,
Eliza Medearis was second in 11:42.78.
Caleigh Lyons (13:22.55) and
Amber Borofsky (13:23.56) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore
Sage Reddish clocked in at 5:02.62 in the 1,500-meter run to take third place in a field of 21 runners. Senior
Sarah Voit later followed with a fifth-place effort in the 200-meter dash in 28.30.
Oberlin turned in a pair of top-four finishes in the 400-meter hurdles with
Cole Fuller clocking in fourth in 58.71, while
Celia Vaughn took third in 1:13.40.
The men's 200-meter dash saw
Sam Fechner take sixth place in the 30-person field as he clocked in at 22.98. Former Yeomen standout Adriano Atallah won the event, running unattached, with a time of 22.50.
In the women's 100-meter dash, sophomore
Heather Benway stopped the clock at 13.07 to take third place out of 28 runners.
It was a 1-2 Yeomen finish in the 5,000 as
Matthew Walton claimed the top spot in 15:26.16, while cross country hero
Niels Vanderloo was second 15:37.89.
In the closing 4x400 relays, Oberlin fared well on both sides of the ledger. The grouping of
Jon Dromlewicz, Obina,
Jesse Herdman, and
Treyce Wood took second in 3:35.46, while the team of Reddish, Ciembroniewicz,
Hayden Hill, and
Avery Russell completed the journey in 4:22.03 to take third place.
Oberlin track and field is back in action next Saturday as it hosts Wooster in a traditional dual meet starting at 10:30 a.m.
