Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over the visiting Chatham Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.
The result leveled the Yeomen's record at 2-2 after they dropped their first two fixtures of the season.
Oberlin clearly was the superior side in the contest, controlling the run of play throughout the 90-minute affair, finishing with a 20-11 shot advantage while earning six corners compared to the Cougars two.
It appeared as if both teams were headed into the intermission tied nil-nil but an offensive flurry of the final moments instead made it 1-1 at the break. It was senior
Jon Schafer who drew first blood as he deposited his first goal of the season and third of his career in the 44th minute and just 34 seconds later Bialowas Pearse Bialowas snuck one in for the Cougars with the help of a Anthony Quidachay feed.
Just under five minutes after the restart, 2021 All-NCAC selection
Anthony Pacewicz would send in the eventual game-winner and the Yeomen rearguard would make the one-goal advantage stand up the rest of the way to secure the win. The score marked the second straight game that the sophomore from Perrysburg, Ohio found twine.
Rookie
Louis Gandelheid led Oberlin with seven shot attempts, five of which were on frame.
Augie Smith matched Schafer with three triggers in the contest.
Louis Berger and
Luke Yates split time in between the pipes with Berger making Oberlin's lone save of the game in what was his first-career start.
The Yeomen have a short turnaround as they go right back to work tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. matinee at home against Bethany.
