Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams celebrated senior day by completing a sweep of the visiting Hiram College Terriers on Friday night at Carr Pool.
The women's team cruised to an easy 208-30 win, while the Yeomen also turned in a commanding 181-47 victory in the short sprint meet.
Before anyone jumped into the pool, both teams honored their respective senior classes with Hiram's Carlee Lisser and Devin Gear preceding the six Oberlin seniors;
Aidan Rowan,
Jesse Pearlman,
Jonathan Hupfeld,
Sophie Schnake,
Kate Raphaely, and
Rachel Maxwell.
After placing second in the opening 200-yard medley relay, the Oberlin women proceeded to win each individual event the rest of the night.
Bella Sites got the winning underway in the 200-yard free, narrowly edging out teammate
Ellie Frost 2:04.01 to 2:04.23. However, Frost would get a win later in the meet, taking the 50-yard fly in 27.36.
Ava Peyton added a near two-second victory in the 50-yard backstroke as did
Skye Slade (33.29) in the 50-yard breaststroke.
First-year
Ava Schigur continued her impressive campaign, securing the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:24.02. Sophomore
Hannah Hale then closed out the opening swimming portion of the meet with a winning time of 25.78 in the 50-yard free. Hale later returned to win the 100-yard free by over a second (55.64).
Rachel Hall displayed her skills with an over four-second triumph in the 200-yard back (2:24.18) while the 200-yard breast was much more closely contested with Skye just barley getting in ahead of Raphaely at 2:47.60 compared to 2:47.82.
Schake posted a senior day victory off the 1-meter board with 158.55 points and later registered 173.85 points off the high 3-meter board.
Sites and Peyton were neck-and-neck in the 100-yard IM with Sites pulling out the win in 1:05.31 compared to Peyton's 1:05.98.
The night came to an end for the Yeowomen with Hale,
Isabel Pfaff, Peyton, and Frost combining to post a winning mark of 1:44.44 in the 200-yard free relay.
The Yeomen opened the evening with a dominating nine-second victory in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:40.48.
The winning continued the 200-yard free as
Dylan Bechtold tapped the wall first in 1:50.70 and moments later
Nora Holder snuck in just before
Sam Blau in the 50-yard free as Holder stopped the clock at 27.22 with Blau close behind in 28.77.
In his final home meet, Hupfeld recorded a win in the 50-yard breaststroke in 28.95 while
Myles Felt notched the final victory before the 1-meter diving break with mark of 1:58.96 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Pearlman totaled 162.22 points off the low board, while
Lucas Draper was second in 139.20. Draper returned to tally 129.15 points off the 3-meter board.
After restart, Bechtold got the Yeomen back on track with a winning time of 2:08.05 in the 200-yard backstroke and
Isaac Viviano claimed the top spot in the 200-yard breast by 14 seconds with a timestamp of 2:13.16.
Felt notched nine points with a win in the 50-yard fly in 24.48 and backed that up with nine more team tallies with a winning time of 56.20 in the 100-yard IM, nipping Viviano by just .64 seconds.
The night concluded with Bechtold, Viviano, Hupfeld and
Erik Fendorf partnering to win the 200-yard free relay by five seconds in 1:34.16.
It will be a short turnaround for Oberlin as the teams will be right back in the water tomorrow afternoon at The College of Wooster with the opening relay set for 1 p.m.
