Gambier, Ohio –
The Oberlin College men's tennis team opened up its 2021-22 season over the weekend against stiff competition at the Kenyon College Invitational.

The event featured regional and national powers Case Western Reserve, Denison, Carnegie Mellon and Kenyon along with the Yeomen.

"It was a good weekend in the sense that we got to see where we stand against some elite teams," Head Coach Eric Ishida said. "I was happy with the way the guys battled but we clearly have a long way to go."

James Dill highlighted the Yeomen effort in singles play, finishing the weekend 3-1. The senior from Chicago, Illinois, dispatched three foes from Denison starting with Joseph Boyle who he set aside 7-6, 6-4. After Ryan Patrick retired in the first set with Dill leading 3-0, it was Jackson Graham who succumbed to Dill by a 6-3, 6-1 count.

Ben Echikson also got by Graham 7-5, 6-4, while Nathan Silverstein was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Aidan Biglow of Kenyon.

In doubles play, Dill partnered with Sean Billerbeck for a grueling 8-7 win over Carnegie Mellon's Brandon Aprill and William Wang. The tandem of Rohan Gold and Sam Topper also edged out Case Western's Pranav Ikkurthy and Chris Provenzano by an 8-7 margin.

The Yeomen are back in action this coming weekend as they host their own invitational on Saturday and Sunday with Wooster, Case Western, Denison, John Carroll, Tiffin and Allegheny slated to come to town.
