Cleveland, Ohio – In their first meet of the Indoor season, the Oberlin Track and Field team shipped out to Case Western Reserve for the Spartan's Holiday Classic.
In the field,
Iyanna Lewis and
Abby Cannon paced the way for the Yeowomen, finishing 2
nd and 3
rd in the weight throw. Lewis threw for 15.16m followed by Cannon throwing 15.12m. The first gold finish for the Yeomen came from
Aesha Mokashi who jumped an impressive 5.08m, just shy of her personal-best mark. In the triple jump event, Mokashi finished top-three again with a 10.57 leap, but it was
Malaika Djungu-Sungu who led the Crimson and Gold with a jump of 10.61 for a second-place finish.
Chilly Wallace finished just behind Mokashi with a length of 10.37 in the triple jump. On the Yeomen's side of field events,
Zac Ntia finished second in the weight throw event with 16.08m.
Zack Lee also had a great day in the field events as he finished in second place with a leap of 6.63m in the long jump.
The track portion of the Holiday Classic got underway as All-Conference Cross Country runners
Phoebe von Conta and
Anna Scott cruised to first and second place finished in the mile run with close times of 5:25.07 and 5:25.10, respectively.
Lucy Curtis followed that up with a top-ten finish in the 200m dash before
Katy Wearing and
Myranda Montoye finished sixth and seventh in the 400m dash. The success kept coming as Wallace earned a top-five finish in the 60m dash with a time of 8.53 seconds, closely followed by
Jada Kennerly with 8.57 seconds. The Yeowomen rounded out a successful season opener with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay as the team of Curtis, Montoye, Wearing, and
Maggie Allen ran for a time of 4:24.48.
For the Yeomen, the one-mile race came first as
Sam Russ and
Walter Moak finished third and fourth, respectively. Russ ran a time of 4:34.18 while Moak finished in 4:36.28. Ezra Taub ran in the 800m race and finished with a time of 2:04.14 to earn himself a silver medal finish after
Reese Hyatt competed in the 60m dash with a time of 7.31 seconds. The Oberlin 'A' relay team, consisting of
Jon Dromlewicz,
Nathan Mendoza,
Amar Rajani-Bangser, and Taub, competed in the 4x400m relay and finished with a time of 3:48.70 to earn third overall.
The Yeomen and Yeowomen get back on the track again next Friday, December 4 when they head to Tiffin University for the Andres Family Alumni Open.
