Oberlin, Ohio – The three-day Oberlin College Invitational came to an end on Saturday night with the Yeowomen sitting atop the nine-team field with 1,231.5 points, while the Yeomen placed fifth with 816.5 points.
"It was a great three days for our program," Head Coach
Alex de la Peña said. "I am proud of the way everyone competed as we posted multiple personal-best swims and all-time top-10 times. I am hoping this is something we can build off of as we move forward into the second part of the season."
The night started with
Charlotte Hantus trimming off 35 seconds in the mile as she clocked in at 19:22.14 to place sixth overall and add 24 points to the Yeowomen's total.
Oberlin had two participants in the A-final of the 200-yard backstroke where rookie
Bella Sites took fourth place with the ninth-fastest time in school history (2:13.89). Classmate
Ava Peyton was three spots back with a timestamp of 2:16.48.
Ellie Frost's prelim time of 54.35 in the 100-yard free is eighth best in program history, while her finals time of 54.89 was good for 25 points and a fifth-place finish.
Elisabeth Ragone picked up 17 more points in the event, placing second in the B-Final and 10
th overall in 55.48.
Kate Raphaely and
Skye Slade ended sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 200-yard breast to add 47 points to the team total. Raphaely shaved two seconds from her seed time with a mark of 2:41.33 while Slade was close behind in 2:42.42.
Four Yeowomen combined to earn 102 points in the 200-yard fly with
Ava Schigur leading the way by placing second in 2:21.95.
Lucy Lee ended third in 2:25.31 while
Emma Frothingham (6
th/2:29.50) and
Rosalie Baron (8
th/2:30.48) also added to the cause.
In the closing 400-yard free relay, Ragone, Peyton, Sites, and Frost completed the journey in 3:42.56 to place third.
Sophie Schnake added a third-place effort off the 1-meter diving board, totaling 286.90 points.
Freshman
Dylan Bechtold opened the Yeomen effort with a fourth-place showing in the 1,650-yard free as he stopped the clock at 17:17.49. Fellow newcomer
Myles Felt would follow with a seventh-place swim in the 200-yard back, tapping the wall in 2:02.36. Felt later returned to post the seventh-best time in school in the 200-yard fly, clocking in at 1:58.39 to place fourth.
Nora Holder was on his coattails in 1:59.59 to place fifth.
Rookie
Erik Fendorf clocked the ninth-fastest time in Yeomen history in the 100-yard free, placing fifth overall in 48.13.
Isaac Viviano and
Jonathan Hupfeld added 43 points to the Yeomen's total in the 200-yard breast as Viviano checked in third at 2:09.74, marking the third-best time in program history. Hupfeld placed one spot back in fourth place in 2:14.33.
The meet concluded with the foursome of Fendorf, Viviano,
Jack Stewart, and Bechtold placing fifth in the 400-yard free relay in 3:16.81.
Oberlin will now rest up until December 18 when it hosts John Carroll University in a dual meet.
