Oberlin Football Raises Over $5,000 for Go4theGoal

10/26/2021 12:35:00 PM

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College football team partnered with the Go4theGoal Foundation for the second time to raise funds and awareness for kids battling cancer in Ohio.

Through an online campaign and game-day effort earlier this month where the players wore yellow wristbands and shoelaces to raise awareness, the Yeomen raised more than $2,500 to eclipse over $5,000 dollars raised over the last 10 months by the players to give back to the community.

"I'm proud of how our players use their platform to raise the standard in every aspect of life - including supporting kids and families facing dire circumstances," said Head Coach Steve Opgenorth. "The investment our guys have in each other, Oberlin College, and the community runs deep and shows their leadership."

The top four fundraisers from the fall were Jackson Lotinsky, Brent Larson, Sam Bingaman, and Ethan Boufford. Lotinsky, a freshman from Pennsylvania, shared his motivation for being involved in a big way this fall.

"I have a good friend I met while playing football when I was a kid," Lotinsky said. "During high school, he was diagnosed with cancer. I know how hard it was for him and his family. I don't want anyone to have to go through something like they did."

All funds raised in 2021 supported Go4theGoal in their mission to make a difference in the lives of kids battling cancer by providing financial assistance, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes.

About Go4theGoal Foundation:

Go4theGoal provides children undergoing cancer treatment and their families with financial assistance, runs fun hospital-based programs, grants special wishes, and supplies state of the art electronic products to children and pediatric oncology units across the country. Since 2007, Go4theGoal has funded nearly $1,000,000.00 in research. For the past four consecutive years, Go4theGoal has earned the honor of "Top Rated Non-Profit" by Great Nonprofits.
