Spartanburg, South Carolina — After a week of training the Oberlin College track and field team kick-started the outdoor portion of its schedule on the Wofford College campus Saturday.
In the hammer,
Maya English and
Jasmine Keegan took fourth and fifth for Oberlin. English hit a mark of 155-00 to place fourth, while Keegan was shortly behind with a heave of 148-10. English and Keegan also competed well in the discus event as English earned a mark of 133-07.00 to place fourth, with Keegan finishing fifth (133-04.00).
First-year athletes
Victoria Blair and
Maggie Allen also impressed in the throwing events. Allen placed fourth in the javelin (110-04.00), while Blair finished sixth (39-08.00) in the shot put.
Talia Barton led the strong Yeowomen vaulters as she cleared 10-11.75. The Nashville, Tennessee, native's vault was good enough for fifth, while junior
Grace Finney finished seventh (10-06.00).
Megan Robinson earned a top-5 finish in the high jump. The senior cleared 4-11 to place fifth and pick up three team points. In the triple jump,
Malaika Djungu-Sungu finished seventh overall as she landed at 34-05.00.
On the track,
Madeleine Weiland earned a top-5 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The senior from New York crossed the finish line in 12:15.69, with her rookie teammate
Anna Scott finishing seventh in the event (12:45.72).
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Christine Impara had an impressive performance. The Ashland, Oregon, native crossed the finish line in 1:10.35, which was good enough for fourth in her heat and 12th overall.
Imani Cook-Gist and
Olivia Smith each earned top-20 finishes for the Yeowomen on the track. Cook-Gist finished 20th in the 100-meter with a time of 12.73, while Smith clocked in at 1:01.50 in the 400.
Hank Sinn got off to a good start to the outdoor season, winning the hammer with a mark of 177-11. The senior's mark was just off of his school record performance of 179-04.00 from last year's Great Lakes Final Qualifying Meet.
In the javelin throw,
Cameron MacIntyre placed fifth. The sophomore combined-events athlete heaved the javelin 144-01.00 to get the Yeomen in the scoring column. The sophomore also earned a top-20 finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.91 to finish fourth in his heat and 18th overall.
Rookie triple jumper
Kofi Asare earned a top-5 finish for the Crimson and Gold. The Berlin, New Jersey, product covered 42-02.25, which was just off his indoor best performance.
The all-conference indoor 4x400-meter relay team of
John Olsen,
Malachi Clemons,
Samuel Mader and
Victor Salcido placed fifth. The group combined for a time of 3:27.89 to open the outdoor season.
The Yeo track and field athletes will be back in action next weekend as they host the Bob Kahn Invite on Saturday, April 6.
