Oberlin, Ohio – The second-seeded Oberlin College women's lacrosse team plays host to No. 3 seed Allegheny on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals.
Oberlin enters the contest with a record of 13-1 and 7-1 in league play. The Gators come to town at 9-5 and 5-3 in the NCAC. In the regular season battle between the two foes, the Yeowomen topped the Gators 14-3 back on April 11.
Since the tournament moved to a top-four format in 2003, Oberlin has never hosted an NCAC Tournament game. The Yeowomen, who are three-time NCAC Champions (1995, 1997-98), last made the league tournament in 2015 when they fell in the championship match to Denison, 14-7. It marked their first postseason berth since 2000.
The senior-laden Yeowomen enter the playoffs boasting the conference's second most potent offense, averaging 16.21 goals per game. Junior
Natalie Rauchle enters as the league's top scorer and is 10
th in the country at 4.38 goals per game. Senior
Sloane Garelick headlines a backline unit that has allowed a league-low 5.36 goals per game, which ranks fifth in the nation. Garelick has done her part by scooping up 3.29 ground balls per contest, which is second in the NCAC.
Oberlin is blessed to have senior
Alexa L'Insalata in goal as she boasts the nation's second-best save percentage at 59.9 percent. The Plainsboro Township, New Jersey, native is also 11
th in the NCAA with a goals against average of 6.20.
Students who come out to support the Yeowomen will be treated to a special pre-game cookout starting at 4:30 p.m. Official Oberlin Athletics t-shirts will also be handed out to students on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Fans coming to the match should be aware the cost to attend for adults is $7 per person. Children (18 and under) are $3. Children under 3 are free as are all students with a valid ID from an NCAC institution.
