Lacrosse Celebrate Seniors to Close Season

Oberlin, Ohio – Taking time to honor their four seniors, Alexis Escobedo, Sophia Ferrantelli, Izzy Sunday, and Lauren Mills, prior to their game, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team battled against DePauw on Saturday. Ultimately coming up short, the Crimson and Gold dropped the 20-10 battle to finish 8-9 on the season and 1-5 in the NCAC.

Larissa Andrick had a stellar day on attack, scoring three goals and adding an assist in the contest. Megan Hiller and Kylie Thompson notched a pair of scores as well, in addition to an assist each. Rounding out the scoring were Sophie Ward, Phoebe Dolan, and Olivia Corradi.

All three netminders for Oberlin clocked time in the game, headlined by Emily Berger who earned the start. Janny McCormick and Taryn Schwartz split the final quarter of action. The trio combined for seven saves in the loss. Rachel Reiter remained an active part of the defensive midfield, pulling in three draw controls and three ground balls. Thompson created a pair of turnovers in the midfield, while Maddie Weathers and Olivia Mohel forced turnovers in the defensive third.

The Tigers came out quick against Oberlin, outscoring the Yeowomen by five in the opening quarter. Despite the lopsided period, Oberlin managed to get on the board behind a successful free position from Hiller. The Crimson and Gold began chipping away at DePauw's lead in the second quarter with another FPO goal.

Thompson drove the ball in on the ensuing possession, kicking off a three-goal run for the Obies. Man-up Dolan notched a goal off the hash just before Andrick connected with Ward to cut DePauw's lead to two. At 7-5, DePauw ripped off back-to-back goals in the final seconds of play to reclaim a four-goal lead at the half.

DePauw picked up where they left off in the first half, adding seven goals in the third quarter. Oberlin cut up the scoring with a pair of goals, first off the stick of Larissa Andrick on a man-up opportunity. The junior rolled the crease before dropping her shot to sneak past the keeper. Thompson rallied for the second goal after causing a turnover on the ride.

Facing a 16-7 deficit, Andrick opened the final period with another free position score. Corradi and Hiller added another set of goals, but the late comeback came up short for the Yeowomen, who closed their season in the final whistle.

Although missing the conference tourney, Oberlin finishes the season with much to celebrate.  Malory Nadrah and Co. earned the most wins since the 2018 campaign, when Lynda McCandllish led the team to a 10-8 season that saw Oberlin head to the NCAC Tournament semifinals. Additionally, this is the first season since 2018 with two players finishing with at least 50 points each. Thompson and Hiller ended with 55 and 53 points, respectively. Furthermore, 2025 marks the first time a rookie has scored 50 points since Taylor Fey notched 70 point in 2012.

With the season over, the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, April 30 with No. 3 DePauw taking on No. 2 Wooster, and No. 1 Denison hosting No.4 Kenyon .
