Series Information …
The all-time series between the Yeomen and Terriers is tied 29-29 … Hiram has won the last two battles, earning a 24-21 win last year and a 35-13 victory in 2014 … However until that point, the Yeomen had the Terriers number, winning the previous six games … Since the year 2000 the Yeomen have lost to Hiram just five times (2000, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2015,) … The history between the two schools dates back to 1895 when Oberlin shutout the Terriers 52-0.
Last Year Against the Terriers …
The Yeomen were 2:20 away from celebrating senior day with a victory, but Nate Eaton's 98-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown spoiled the potential party as the visiting Hiram College Terriers used a 14-point fourth quarter to defeat the Yeomen 24-21 … The Yeomen led 13-3 at the half, but were very sluggish in the second half as they could never put the Terriers away for good and eventually paid the ultimate price … Oberlin's defense had six takeaways, but netted just 14 points off of the Hiram miscues.
Last Time Out for the Yeomen …
Oberlin closed out the home portion of its schedule, falling to DePauw 50-17 … The Yeomen trailed by just nine, 26-17, midway through the second quarter, but the Tigers took over from there to earn the win.
Scouting the Terriers …
Hiram enters coming off a, 42-23, loss at Wooster last weekend … The Terriers two wins this season have come at home as they defeated Kenyon (45-7/Sept. 17) and Allegheny (42-14/Oct. 29) … Hiram averages just under 21 points per game, but opponents have scored 35 points per contests while averaging 415.1 yards per game … Senior linebacker Kyle Burchett leads the NCAC with 106 tackles … Senior quarterback Domenic Paolo has thrown for 1,662 yards with 12 touchdowns against 11 interceptions … Junior Danny Robinson leads a diverse ground attack with an average of 70.2 yards per game, with short-yardage specialist Isaiah Jones vulturing six touchdowns … Senior wide out Joshua Philander has 55 catches for 928 yards (103. 1 per game) and six touchdowns.
Looking for One …
The Yeomen enter Saturday's finale with a sense of desperation as they are still in search of their first win of the season … The Yeomen have not had a winless season since 2000 and the last time they were 1-9 was in 2004 when they beat Hiram 48-7 in the season finale.
Searching for Second …
With 2,156 career-receiving yards, senior
Justin Cruz currently sits third all-time in school history … However, he needs just 109 yards to move into second on the list … Felix Brooks-Church currently has the second most yards in school history as he recorded 2,264 between 1995-98 …The all-time leader is Chris Schubert with 2,536 … Cruz is third on the all-time in receptions with 176, trailing Schubert for second on the list with 201.
Zach Attack …
After throwing for 117 yards last week against DePauw, freshman quarterback
Zach Taylor enters the final game of the season with 1,717 yards … If he can throw for 283 yards this week, he will become just the fourth Yeomen QB in school history to reach 2,000 passing yards in a season.
Just for Kicks …
First-year place kicker
Michael Leshchyshyn has had a fine rookie campaign, connecting on 7-of-10 field goal tries … He is a perfect 5-for-5 from 36 yards or less … His three misfires on the year have come from 37, 39 and 40 yards … His seven makes are third most in a season and he would need just one more on Saturday to move into a second-place tie with Erickson Andrews and Mike Tomlinson, who made eight field goals in 2012 and 2005, respectively … Steve Willever is the all-time single season leader with 11 successful tries in 2002.
The Senior's Understudy …
Senior
Justin Bute enters the final game of his career with 248 tackles, needing just three to pass Sami Hobi (250/2000-01) for third all-time … Following in Bute's footsteps has been freshman linebacker
Von Wooding as he is averaging 12 tackles per game over the last three weeks, including a career-high 15 last week against DePauw … Wooding has 63 tackles (17
th in the NCAC) on the season and one day may be chasing Bute in the record book.
Yeomen in Finales …
Dating back to 2010 the Yeomen are just 2-4 in their final game of the season … With the Terriers getting their number in each of the last two years, the Yeomen's last victory in their final game was in 2013 when they beat Hiram at home 47-13 … Their other win during the stretch came in 2011 when they won at Allegheny, 14-13.
