Carey Lyons were on display at day one of the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Making her second appearance at the NCAA Championships, Newton took on the field in the first event of the day, the women's discus. Newton ripped off a throw of 145-04 (44.29m) on her first attempt to finish 15
th in the country.
Newton will take on the country's best in the women's shot put on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Drafts-Johnson made her inaugural appearance at nationals in the women's 400-meter hurdles. The Melrose, Massachusetts native missed qualifying for the finals, finishing 17th with a time of 1:03.35, which is slightly back of her school-record time.
In the preliminaries of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Lyons cracked into the top 14 to qualify for Saturday's final. Lyons finished in a program record 10:45.58, to qualify seventh.
Lyons will run in the finals on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and is slated to compete in the 5k at 4:05 p.m.
Junior distance man,
Geno Arthur will compete in the men's 5,000-meters on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. to conclude Oberlin's outing at the 2015 Championships.
