Box Score

Brockport, NY – The Oberlin College football team was unable to slow down the high-powered offense of The College at Brockport, falling 45-10 to the Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Eunice Kennedy Stadium.

With the win, Brockport extended its winning streak to eight games in a row after winning their final seven games of 2013 en route to an 8-3 season. For Oberlin it is its first week-one loss since 2009.

The Yeomen got off to a great start scoring the game's first touchdown as Lucas Poggiali connected with sophomore receiver Justin Cruz on a 10-yard strike with 8:34 left to play in the first quarter.

The drive was setup by a 50-yard punt from Max Schenk that pinned the Golden Eagles on their own 1-yardline. A quick 3-and-out coupled with a 23-yard punt by James Quinn gave the Yeomen the ball at the 24-yardline. A key 3rd-down run from senior Justin Williams extended the drive and just two plays later the Yeomen would grab the 7-0 lead.

Unfortunately, the momentum was short-lived as Nick Vollone returned the ensuing kickoff 55 yards to put Brockport into Yeomen territory. Two plays later Wayne Bonsell would escape free on a wide receiver screen and scamper 34 yards for the tying touchdown.

In the second quarter the Golden Eagles would take control, scoring 17 points in the period to take a 24-7 half-time lead into the locker room. Elusive running back Dan Andrews ran in from nine yards out, and just before the half, quarterback Ty Stoldt avoided multiple Yeomen defenders on an acrobatic 7-yard touchdown run.

Andrews added his second score of the game early in the third quarter and the Yeomen would get back into the scoring column on a 27-yard Erickson Andrews field goal that made it 31-10. The kick capped a 14-play, 50-yard drive that took 5:31. Poggiali had runs of 15 and 12 yards to help keep the chains moving during the sequence.

Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles short-circuited any threat off a comeback as Stoldt threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to Andrew Mrozek with the second one covering 82 yards to cap the game's scoring.

The Yeomen offense performed well on the ground, totaling 184 yards on 40 attempts. Junior Blake Buckhannon led the way with a career-high 85 yards on 14 carries, while Williams added 61 yards on 13 rushes. Poggiali finished with 38 yards in the setback.

Sophomore Adrian Kelly led the Yeomen defense with 11 tackles. Justin Bute matched Schenk with eight tackles, with two of Schenk's stops going for a loss.

The Yeomen will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to conference rival Kenyon. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
