Field Hockey Falls in Opener

Sophomore Maggie Gossiaux set a career high with 15 saves

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team dropped their 2014 home opener to the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College, 7-0.
 
The first half went in Washington and Jefferson's favor as they took a 5-0 lead into halftime.
 
The Yeowomen picked up the intensity in the second half, creating a handful of opportunities in the offensive third. Oberlin's best look came from sophomore Maureen Coffey late in the game. Coffey rapped a shot at the Presidents' net but the W&J keeper turned it away.
 
Coffey and first year, Aditi Banerjee led Oberlin with one shot each.
 
Oberlin sophomore keeper Maggie Gossiaux set a career high with 15 saves against the Presidents. Fifth-year senior Hannah Christiansen also added a defensive save for the Yeowomen.
 
Oberlin field hockey will return to action on Saturday, September 13 when they open North Coast Athletic Conference competition. The Yeowomen will host the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
