Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team defeated the visiting Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets 7-4 and 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Dill Field.

Mitch Novak led the way at the plate as he was 4-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Jeff Schweighoffer added three hits with a triple and four RBIs, while Danny Baldocchi also had three hits with two doubles and two RBIs.

In the lid-lifter the Yeomen scored all seven of their runs over the first three innings, plating a pair in each of the first two innings before posting a 3-spot in the third.

Andrew Hutson and Baldocchi each delivered RBI singles in the first. In the second inning Novak sent the first run across on a double down the left field line and Schweighoffer would then follow with a run-producing single to left field as well.  Just an inning later he would bust the game wide open with a three-run triple to the gap in left center to make it a 7-2 Yeomen advantage.

Sophomore Harrison Wollman (2-3) earned his second win of the season as he worked his way into the fifth before being lifted for Mattie DeDoes. Wollman allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out two. DeDoes was credited with a save as he worked the final three innings, surrendering three hits and two runs (one earned).

In the nightcap the Yeomen bats were silent, as they had no answer for Yellow Jackets starter Logan Heffernan until the seventh. Working on a one-hitter with a 1-0 lead in hand, Heffernan hit Hutson to lead off the inning. Baldocchi would then step up and tie the game with a double to right center score Hutson.

Cory Durbin entered in relief of Heffernan and would walk pinch hitter Brian Hemmert and then hit Kyle Decker to load the bases.  Dylan Fodar would then come in to pitch, getting a much-needed pop-up for the first out. However, the game would ultimately end on a failed pick-off attempt as he tried to catch Hemmert off guard at first base, but threw the ball away to allow the game-winning run to score.

Oberlin starter Benjamin Whitener was locked up in the pitcher's duel with Heffernan through the front four innings, working around five hits before ultimately allowing a run in the fifth.

Kyle Dominy recorded the first two outs of the fifth and then gave way to Jesse Kohler (1-1), who earned the win after allowing just one hit over the final 2.1 innings.

The Yeomen will now travel west to DePauw University to take on the Tigers in the NCAC Crossover Series. The winner of the three-game will then advance to the NCAC Tournament the following weekend.
