Westlake, Ohio – The Oberlin College Baseball team notched a pair of athletes on the North Coast Athletic conference postseason list.
Calvin Burkholder and
Brady Groves earned nods on the All-Conference Third-Team, as announced by the league off on Thursday. This marks both Burkholder and Groves' first career NCAC mentions.
Leading the Yeomen from the bump, Burkholder made nine appearances racking up a 5-3 record and 2-2 in conference play. With wins against DePauw and Kenyon, the sophomore collected 41 strikeouts while giving up just 23 runs. Boasting a 3.91 ERA, Burkholder led the bullpen in nearly every category this season.
"Cal was great for us all year. Every time he was on the mound, he allowed us to win and really embraced the role of leading our pitching staff." Head Coach John Ray adds, "He has such a calm presence when he pitches and our team really feeds off of it. The best part of it all is he still has so much room to grow for the next two years."
In his second campaign with the Crimson and Gold, Groves played and started in 35 games while leading the team with 25 runs and nine doubles. With a .308 batting average, the second year collected 41 hits, 19 RBIs and eight stolen bases this season. Primarily playing in right field, Groves made 78 putouts for a .964 fielding percentage.
"Brady faced some adversity early in the year and really persevered through it to put together a great conference year." Ray continues, "He was one of the big pieces in our lineup that helped lead our offense this year."
Both Burkholder and Groves are set to return for their junior campaign next season.
