Meadville, PA – Senior Mike McDonald threw a complete-game two-hit shutout in the lid-lifter as Oberlin won 9-0, but the Gators of Allegheny bounced back to win game two 11-1.

McDonald was aided by his defense as 10 of his outs came on the ground with another seven through the air. He walked three, hit one and struck out two in 105 pitches of work as he improved to 5-3 on the year.

The Yeomen offense also supported McDonald, scoring six runs over the first three innings. Ryan Bliss led the way, as he was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.

Oberlin posted a lone tally in the first on Benjamin Whitener's two-out RBI single through the right side to score Bliss. They would later take a 2-0 lead in the second on Justin Cruz's run-producing single to right. The inning would ultimately come to end with Mitch Novak striking out after a 12-pitch at-bat that saw him foul off six pitches.

The Yeomen busted things open in the third, using just one hit and two Allegheny errors to score four runs in the inning. Bliss led off the frame with a double down the left field line and later scored when Hutson reached on an error. The big miscue came on Blaise Dolcemaschio's ball to right field that was misplayed and resulted in three Yeomen runs.

Oberlin would tack on three more runs in the top of the seventh to complete the game's scoring. Andrew Hutson sent the first run across on a sac fly to left and Danny Baldocchi later belted a two-run opposite-field double down the right field line.

Unfortunately for the Yeomen, the Gators got their revenge in game two, scoring six runs in the first inning before Oberlin was able to record an out.

Oberlin's lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when Hutson hit a solo home run over the wall in left field. It was his first round-tripper of the season.

The Yeomen finished with just four hits in the game, as they were unable to mount a comeback attempt.

Oberlin is now 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the NCAC East. The Gators sit at 17-7 overall and 6-2 in league play.

Oberlin will conclude conference play when it host The College of Wooster next Friday and Saturday. Game one on each day will begin at 12 p.m.
