Langhorne, PA – Playing for the first time in over three weeks, the Oberlin College men's basketball team had no trouble defeating Cairn University, winning 101-69 on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeomen, who have now won two in a row and three of their last four games, sit at 4-7 on the season.
Four of the five Yeomen starters scored in double figures with sophomore center
Randy Ollie leading the way with a season-high 20 points. Senior
Geoff Simpson added 18 of his own and matched Ollie with a team-high seven rebounds.
The backcourt duo of
Austin Little and
Jesse Neugarten also impressed. Little cashed in 4-of-6 triple-tries and finished with 14 points, while Neugarten contributed a season-best 13 points.
Oberlin never trailed, but Cairn did stay close in the early going. The Yeomen were clinging to a 30-27 lead with 6:59 left in the first half, but used an 11-4 run to grab a 41-31 cushion at the 3:30 mark. They would ultimately head into the locker room with a 14-point advantage at 50-36.
The Yeomen made a statement to start the second half and quickly extended their lead out to 20, 59-39, just 4:30 into the session. A 3-pointer by Little with 10:42 remaining in the game gave Oberlin a 32-point advantage at 79-47. The Highlanders would get no closer than 26 the rest of the way.
Oberlin shot 61.3-percent from the floor - connecting on 38-of-62 attempts - which included an impressive 57.1-percent (8-of-14) success rate from beyond the arc.
The Yeomen held the Highlanders to just 38.5-percent (25-of-65) shooting. Cairn's Kyle Bonner led all scorers with 22 points.
Oberlin will continue its five-game road trip on Wednesday night when it travels to Denison University. Tip-time is set for 7:30 p.m.
