Yeowomen Drop a Sunday Showdown to Allegheny

Eleanor Van Buren had a career-high 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team had three players score in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Gators of Allegheny College cruised to an 86-66 win over the Yeowomen on Sunday afternoon.
 
After being held in single digits for the first time all season in the Yeowomen's last game at DePauw, junior Christina Marquette returned to her scoring ways with a team-high 19 points. The Huntington Beach, California, native added a game-high 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year. Sophomore Lindsey Bernhardt contributed 13 points, while rookie Eleanor Van Buren dropped in a career-high 12 points on a very efficient 6-of-7 shooting. Furthermore, senior point guard Malisa Hoak dished out eight assists and scored eight points in the loss.
 
Early in the contest the Yeowomen held a 10-9 lead, but the Gators used an 11-0 spurt to go up 20-10 with 11:21 left in the opening half. Allegheny would later widen the margin out to 16, 30-14, but Oberlin fought to get within seven at the 4:53 mark. However, Allegheny would close the frame by scoring 15 of the final 21 points of the session to take a 45-29 lead into the locker room.
 
In the second half the Gators quickly built up a 20-point advantage. The Yeowomen tried to make a push at them, cutting the deficit down to 13 on two separate occasions, but they would get no closer.
 
Four Gators scored in double figures with Emma Pellicano leading the way with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting. As a team the Gators shot 50-percent (36-of-72) en route to running their record to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC.
 
The Yeowomen, who dropped to 8-10 and 3-6 in the league, shot 39.7-percent (25-of-63) in the loss.
 
Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night at Kenyon College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
