Oberlin, Ohio – A select group of Oberlin College athletes were in action on Friday night, but that didn't mean the results were any smaller than normal.
Competing at the Ashland University Alumni Meet, sophomore
Tiffany Henry shattered her own school record in the hammer throw by over 15 feet. The Hartsdale, New York, native soared the hammer 151-11, demolishing her old mark of 135-04.
Meanwhile, over at the Hillsdale Gina Relays, junior
Molly Martorella ran the second fastest time in the country to date in the 5,000 meters as she stopped the clock at 16:42.02. The only two runners to beat her in the 29-runner field were from Michigan State University. Also competing in the same race was sophomore
Emma Lehmann who shattered her personal-best time in the event by nearly 14 seconds with a mark of 17:16.86 - good for fourth fastest in school history.
Senior
Piper Nash also ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but she was back of her seed time of 11:10.02 – completing the race in 11:34.96 on this night.
The majority of the Oberlin track and field team will be competing at the Ashland Alumni meet tomorrow, while select members will be representing Oberlin at the NCAC Multi-Event Championships.
