Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College golf team showed drastic improvement on day two of the Nye Intercollegiate, shaving 17 strokes from its day-one total to finish the two-round event with 987 total swings. The Yeomen carded in a 502 on Saturday and then posted a 485 on Sunday.
Rookie
Justin Ruiz was the team's top finisher, placing tied for 59
th overall. He recorded a team-low round of 83 on Saturday, but was slightly back of that mark on Sunday as he signed in at 89 for a total of 172.
John Ingham needed 103 strokes to get through the par-72, 6,665-yard layout at the Wooster Country Club on day one, and on day two he needed a few more swings as he carded in a 119. His two-round total of 222 was good for 88
th place.
Michael Jacobs was much better today than Saturday as he reduced his round-one score of 122 by 14 swings. The newcomer had the second-best round of the day with a 108.
Rachel Coyte was also 25 strokes better on Sunday as she rounded out the Oberlin lineup.
The Wittenberg Tigers won the 16-team event with a mark of 609 (308-301). The Tigers' paring of Sam Geise and Ben Hogenkamp shared co-medalist honors by posting identical 150 scorers with rounds of 76 and 74.
Oberlin will be back in action next weekend at the Ted Barclay Invitational, hosted by Denison University at the Granville Golf Course.
