Results
Delaware, Ohio – Under the guidance of new Head Coach Joe Miller, the Oberlin College golf team played in its first tournament of the spring over the weekend, carding in a two-round total of 886 at the Strimer Memorial Invitational.
Freshman
Justin Ruiz was very impressive as he posted a 36-hole total of 151 on the par-70, 6,608-yard layout at the Glenross Golf Club. He signed in a 75 on day one and followed with a 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 21st overall.
As a team, Oberlin shaved off 29 strokes between round one and two. They finished with 457 swings on Saturday, but reduced that number down to 429 on Sunday,
Soccer player
John Ingham was consistent with his play on both days, finishing with 205 total strokes. The first-year carded in a 103 on Saturday and followed with a 102 on Sunday.
Sophomore
Michael Jacobs showed drastic improvement on day two, trimming his day-one total of 107 down to 99 on day two.
Swim team member
Rachel Coyte also competed for Oberlin.
Otterbein University won the nine-team event with 576 (291-285) total strokes. Ohio Wesleyan's Kaneat Nimcharoenwan took medalist honors with an even-par 140 (71-69).
The team will be back in action next weekend at the Nye Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Wooster at the Wooster Country Club.
