Wooster, Ohio – The 2013 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships came to an end on Saturday evening with the Yeowomen finishing in second place and the Yeomen in sixth.
In the first running event of the day, the Yeowomen left an everlasting mark on the championships by setting a new conference and school record in the 4x200 meter relay. The tandem of
Sophia Brancazio,
Margaret Miller,
Ashley Parish and
Marissa Clardy completed the course in 1:44.57 to best the old conference mark of 1:44.98 that has stood since 2001.
NCAC Female Distance Runner of the Year
Molly Martorella added her second title of the meet, winning the 3,000 meters in 10:21.43 and also finished second in the mile at 5:12.06. Teammate
Emma Lehman was fourth in the mile at 5:16.88.
Miller added another All-NCAC effort by placing third in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.17, while Brancazio was one one-hundredth of a second back at 8.18. Brancazio later added a third-place effort in the 200-meter dash, touching the tape in 26.82.
Clardy, who ran anchor on the record-setting 4x200 meter relay team, returned to place second in the 400 meters at 59.35.
The Yeowomen ended the meet by claiming the top spot in the 4x400 meter relay, nearly missing a school record with a timestamp of 4:04.86.
Katrina Gelwick was followed by Brancazio, Miller and Clardy in the race.
After a successful day one in the field events, the Yeowomen shined again today. First-year
Caitlyn Grubb won the shot put with a school-record toss of 40-04.25, while fellow rookie
Larisa Lewis was second at 38-04. Senior
Jasmine Owens was also second in the long jump with a mark of 17-00.75.
For the Yeomen, senior
Alex Guo was just barely edged out in the long jump as finished second at 21-00.50, while Matt Hunter of Ohio Wesleyan won the event at 21-00.75.
Freshman
Nathan Danko turned in an All-NCAC performance in the pole vault, finishing in the third place with a mark of 13-11.25. Sophomore
Evan Finch added a fifth-place effort in the high jump at six feet even.
In the men's 3,000 Oberlin earned nine points with runners placing fourth and fifth. Sophomore
Leo Harrington stopped the clock at 8:56.15, while senior
Daniel Johnson followed in at 8:59.82.
Jerry Choi chipped in a seventh-place showing in the 200-meter dash at 23.33.
Ohio Wesleyan won the event for the women with 195 points, while Oberlin was close behind with 168 tallies.
The men's title was claimed by Wabash with 220.5 points, while Ohio Wesleyan was second with 168.5 points. Oberlin totaled 46 points in the event.
Martorella will now wait to hear her fate in regards to a potential invite to the NCAA Indoor Championship Meet.
