Buffalo, N.Y. – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team fell to the New York Region's third-ranked and undefeated Buffalo State College on Friday afternoon, 14-1, at Coyer Field in the Yeowomen's second straight frigid contest.
The Bengals, who finished ranked in the top 20 at the end of 2012, are one of the toughest opponents any Yeowomen squad has faced in over a decade. They are currently ranked 11th in the country in the latest

“I'm so proud of the team's effort and intensity today,” Head Coach Jacqueline McDevitt said. “We played poised and with a purpose, following our game plan for a full 60 minutes.”
Buffalo State exhibited strong play right from the start of the game, putting up four goals in the first 10 minutes. The Yeowomen battled early on, however, as first-year
Grace Barlow found the back of the net unassisted at the 13:26 mark in the first half.
The Yeowomen defense played strong throughout the remainder of the first period, limiting Buffalo State to three additional goals. Oberlin went into halftime down 7-1.
In the second session the Yeowomen continued to fight on both ends of the field, but unfortunately were unable to cash in another goal. Buffalo State finished the game strong by matching their first-half goal total with seven scores in the period.
The Bengals lead in shots with 31 and in ground balls with 24 compared to Oberlin's eight shots and 15 ground balls.
“We had some key possessions that, if we would have capitalized on, would have changed the momentum,” McDevitt said.
Senior goalkeeper
Madeleine O'Meara finished with nine saves on the afternoon.
The Yeowomen fall to 1-3 on the season and look forward to their next game as they take on visiting Saint Vincent College on March 18. The nonconference matchup is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Fred Shults Field.
