Cleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with the Case Western Reserve Spartans, dropping a 78-68 decision on Monday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

Geoff Simpson led the Yeomen with 17 points. First-year
Jack Poyle added 11 points, while
Jesse Neugarten chipped in with 10.
Tim Chung had a career-high 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point land as he led a trio of Spartans in double figures. With the win the Spartans moved to 5-1, while the Yeomen dropped to 2-7.
Oberlin held a 13-9 advantage with 12:19 left to play in the first half. However, the Spartans would find their rhythm, responding with a 13-2 run to claim a 22-15 lead at the 6:36 mark. They would extend the margin out to 12, but Oberlin fought back to get within seven at 35-28 at the intermission.
Case came out hot to start the second half, ultimately building a 54-34 lead with 12:18 left in regulation. The Yeomen continued to fight and cut the deficit down to 11, 68-57, on a Neugarten triple-hit with 4:52 left to play. On the next possession, Poyle would add another 3-pointer to make it a nine-point game at 69-60. Unfortunately, the Yeomen would get no closer the rest of the way.
The Yeomen shot 42.1-percent (24-of-57) from the floor, but finished just 13-of-21 (61.9%) at the free throw line. The Spartans checked in at 50.9-percent shooting, making 28-of-55 attempts on the night.
Oberlin outscored Case 30-18 in the paint and their bench bunch outscored its Spartan counterpart 29-14.
The Yeomen will play their final game of the 2013 calendar year on Wednesday night when they travel to Grove City College for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
