Yeomen Unable to Keep Up with Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio – Playing for the second time in as many days, the Oberlin College men's basketball team could not slow down the high-powered Tigers of Wittenberg, falling 85-69 on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the loss, Oberlin fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Tigers improved to 3-1 and 1-0 in the league.
 
Wittenberg's Sam Collins scored 17 first-half points and finished with 22 points to lead all scorers.
 
The Yeomen were paced by Austin Little and first-year Zach Moo Young, who each scored 13 points. Sophomore Randy Ollie also added 11 points and nine rebounds while senior Geoff Simpson matched him with 11 points as well.
 
The Tigers shot a blistering 65.4-percent in the first half, making 17-of-26 shots to take a 49-30 lead into the locker room.
 
The game was much more closely contested in the second half as the Yeomen outscored the Tigers 39-36 over the final 20 minutes of play.
 
The Yeomen shot 39.3-percent (22-of-56) from the floor, while Wittenberg checked in at 54-percent, making 27-of-50 shot attempts. The Tigers also attempted 36 free throws, making 24 for a 66.7-percent success rate. Oberlin cashed in 17-of-24 (70.8%) charity tosses in the loss.
 
Oberlin will be back in action on Tuesday evening when it plays host to Elmira. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
