Box Score

Adrian, MI – The Oberlin College women's basketball team held a 10-point halftime lead, but could not make it stand up as the home Adrian College Bulldogs rallied to steal away a 79-61 victory over the Yeowomen on Wednesday night.

Junior Christina Marquette led the Yeowomen with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior point guard Malisa Hoak added 11 points and four assists in the setback.

Oberlin never trailed in the first half, but went ice cold offensively in the second session, which resulted in the Bulldogs dealing them their first loss of the season.

A Lindsey Bernhardt jumper with 5:45 left in the first half gave the Yeowomen their first 10-point lead at 26-16. A pair of Marquette free throws at the 2:12 mark extended the Oberlin advantage out to 15, but the Yeowomen would ultimately take a 40-30 cushion into the break.

Unfortunately, the second half was a different story for the Yeowomen as they were out-scored 49-21 in the frame.

The Bulldogs claimed their first lead of the game with 11:07 left to play on a pair of Amy Van Gessel free throw makes to give them a 56-55 edge. They would not trail the rest of the way.

Oberlin would go over 10 minutes without a field goal, which allowed the Bulldogs to pull away for the win.

The Yeowomen shot 39.3-percent (24-of-61) from the floor, and was hindered by a 3-of-15 (20%) effort from beyond the arc. The Yeowomen were also plagued by 19 turnovers that turned into 22 Bulldogs' points.

Oberlin is back in action this weekend at Susquehanna University. The team will take on Rosemont on Saturday and then play again on Sunday afternoon against a to-be-determined opponent.
