Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – Playing for the final time in Savage Stadium, the Oberlin College football team made a lasting memory by defeating the Hiram College Terriers 47-13 on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeomen not only bid a farewell to their longtime home, they also sent off nine seniors with a win they will cherish forever.

One of those seniors was Moses Richardson who matched a career-high 142 yards on 29 carries to go along with two touchdowns. With 1,826 yards in his career, Richardson departs Oberlin as the school's fifth leading rusher all-time.

Richardson spearheaded an Oberlin ground attack that totaled 305 yards on 51 attempts. Sophomore Blake Buckhannon added 80 yards on just seven carries, while quarterback Lucas Poggiali ran for 63 yards and a score.

Through the air Poggiali was 11-of-23 passing for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Buckhannon, who totaled 215 all-purpose yards, was his top target with three catches for 65 yards and a TD.

A defensive breakdown by the Yeomen defense allowed the Terriers to score the first touchdown of the game as Brendon Jacobs snuck behind the Yeomen secondary and was left alone for a 71-yard pitch-and-catch on 3rd-and-18.

However, the Yeomen would answer right back with a big play of their own as Poggiali connected with Buckhannon down the seam for a 51-yard scoring strike to even the score at 7-7 after one quarter.

In the early part of the second quarter, Richardson capped an 11-play, 81-yard drive with a 2-yard TD plunge. Hiram responded with a 15-play, 75-yard drive that took 6:15 off the clock. Quarterback George Blake called his own number and snuck in from the 1-yardline. The Yeomen would block the point after attempt to keep a one-point lead.

With the half nearing an end, Poggiali pushed the Yeomen lead out to 21-13, running in a bootleg to near the side from 18 yards out to finish off an 8-play, 56-yard drive.

The second half was completely controlled by the Yeomen as their defense would not allow a single point.

The first two points of the half came on a safety as Blake fumbled in the end zone. Taking advantage of great field position following the free kick, Poggiali marched the offense down the field and ultimately found tight end Gideon Reiz for an 11-yard TD to make it a 30-13 game.  It was the senior's first-career touchdown.

Later in the third quarter Buckhannon added his second TD of the game and fifth of the season, breaking off a 41-yard run to the end zone.

With the game nearing an end and with the record book in his sight; Richardson put an exclamation point on his tremendous day and career by busting loose for a 48-yard TD run.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, the Yeomen added three points on a 38-yard Erickson Andrews field goal.

Senior Kirby Livingston ended his career on a high note, totaling a career-best three sacks and four tackles-for-loss. He also added a forced fumble. Livingston tied classmate Kyle Kessler for a team-high nine tackles in the game.

Senior Jake Danko also had a strong performance with four tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and eight total tackles.

In total the Yeomen defense racked up 13 tackles-for-loss and six sacks.

The Yeomen finish the season with a record of 3-7 overall and 2-7 in the NCAC.

Prior to the game, the Department of Athletics and Physical Education held a special groundbreaking ceremony for the Austin E. Knowlton Complex, which will serve as the new home for the Yeomen next season.
