Yeowomen Battle With Big Red

Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team got the homecoming festivities started with a matchup against Denison University on Friday afternoon. The Yeowomen put forth a valiant effort, but fell to the Big Red, 5-0.

Katie McMahon got the scoring started for the Big Red and never looked back, as she netted all three first-half goals for Denison. Taylor Bacon assisted on two of McMahon's goals.

In the second half, the Yeowomen turned up the pressure on both ends of the field, taking five shots and controlling possession much better than in the first half. The Big Red scored two goals in the second half, both coming off of the counter attack. Claire Yeske led Oberlin's offensive attack with three shots.

Carmen Azevedo started in goal for the Yeowomen and made two saves. Maggie Gossiaux replaced her at halftime and made five saves.

Two cards were given by the official, both against Oberlin as Olivia DeToma was shown a green card and Hannah Christiansen was shown yellow.

The Yeowomen will be in action next weekend as they host both Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday and Wittenberg on Sunday.
