Greencastle, IN—The Oberlin College field hockey team was looking to carry momentum from their win yesterday into their match against DePauw University this afternoon. But the Tigers were able to stifle the Oberlin's offense, which had been hitting on all cylinders lately, and handed the Yeowomen a 6-0 defeat.
The Tigers got off to a flying start by scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes, all before the Yeowomen were able to take a single shot.
Oberlin had a chance to create some offense right before halftime as they earned three consecutive penalty corners, but were unable to do anything with the opportunity.
It was more of the same in the second half, as DePauw continued to control possession and take shots at goalkeeper
Carmen Azevedo. The Tigers would add three more goals throughout the half to secure the conference victory.
The Yeowomen were limited to just two shots, both of which were on goal.
Ariana Enzerink and
Jodi Helsel took the shots for Oberlin.
DePauw had an edge in penalty corners, 26-7, and also outshot the Yeowomen, 26-2.
Azevedo played the entire match in goal and made 17 saves, bringing her season total to 89. This also marked her fourth game of the season with double-digit saves.
Oberlin will look to rebound when they head to Bethany College on Wednesday, October 23, for a 7 p.m. start.
