Coming off a 28-26 win over DePauw University, the Lords come to town led by sophomore quarterback Jake Bates … In the win over DePauw, Bates threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns … He also ran for 48 yards on 10 carries … Deep-threat receiver Jibri McLean is averaging 23 yards per catch and has hauled in two touchdowns … Both Casey Beaudouin and Brandon January have over 200 rushing yards for the Lords ... Reed Franklin and Zach Morrow both have 39 total tackles to lead the Lords' defensively.
Yeomen Looking To Rebound …
Last week's 59-point loss was the largest defeat for the Yeomen since 1999 when they lost 65-0 to Pomona-Pitzer … Last week also marked the first time the Yeomen have been shutout since 2009 in a 22-0 loss to Allegheny … The Yeomen will look to get back on track against Kenyon, an opponent they've had success against in recent history.
Road Woes …
In the Yeomen's two road losses, opponents have racked up over 1,000 yards of total offense and scored 14 touchdowns … Compared to their lone home game in week one, when Oberlin limited Case Western Reserve to just 195 yards of total offense and no touchdowns … The Yeomen only caused one turnover during their last two road contests, while coughing the ball up four times.
Crunching the Clock …
In each of the first three games this season, Oberlin has done a tremendous job in controlling the clock, entering Saturday's game with a 19:14 margin in their favor … In the home opener against Case Western, Oberlin held the ball for 39:16 … On the season the team's average of 33:12 ranks third in the NCAC.
Flustered on Field Goals…
The Oberlin kicking game is looking to get on track this Saturday against the Lords … So far this season, the Yeomen are yet to convert a field goal opportunity on their four attempts … The blocking up-front needs to improve as two kicks have been blocked as have two extra-point tries.

Through three games, the Yeomen have showed their discipline as they are the least penalized team in the NCAC … Oberlin has committed just seven infractions thus far for 75 yards.

The Yeomen kick-return duo of
Blake Buckhannon and
Justin Cruz has been doing a great job giving the offense good field position … Together they have totaled 311 yards on 16 kicks … Their average of 19.4 yards per return ranks fourth best in the NCAC … Buckhannon's 109 all-purpose yards per game are good for fifth best in the NCAC.
Ground Delivery …
Oberlin is averaging 4.0 yards per rush, which is fifth best in the NCAC … On the season the Yeomen have totaled 517 yards on 130 attempts and are averaging 172.3 yards per game … The Yeomen have scored four rushing TDs on the season, including
Nick Theofilos' 60-yard run against Wooster two weeks ago … The sophomore currently leads the NCAC with an average of 12.7 yards per carry.
Celebrating 50 Years …
As part of homecoming weekend, Oberlin is honoring the 1963 Yeomen football team … The team went 6-2 that season, which remains the best record of any Oberlin squad in the last 62 years … The senior members of that team: John McCaslin, Greg Shepard, Joe Fink, Charles Marshall, Robert Steinberg, Mike Koslow and James Wright will all serve as honorary captains at the game.
