Meadville, PA – The Oberlin College women's basketball team shot 50-percent in the second half, but it was not enough to erase a 20-point half-time deficit in a 58-43 loss at Allegheny College on Wednesday night.
The Yeowomen dug themselves a gigantic hole by shooting just 15.6-percent (5-of-32) in the first half which allowed the home Gators to claim a 32-12 half-time advantage.
Oberlin was much better over the final 20 minutes, cashing in 12-of-24 attempts. After falling behind by as many as 25 in the opening minutes of the second half, the Yeowomen were able to get within 14, 43-29, on a
Christina Marquette triple-hit with 12:09 to go. They would later get within 13 on two separate occasions, but would close the gap no further.
Marquette, who came into the game averaging over 21 points per contest, was held to just 11 points. However, senior
Ellen Neumann did drop in a season-high 12 points in the setback.
Allison Gannon added eight points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Emma Pellicano of Allegheny led all scorers with 15 points, while Daryl Ford added 13 of her own and a game-high eight boards for the victors.
The Yeowomen, who dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC, have the weekend off and will not be back in action until next Wednesday when they host Wooster at 7:30 p.m.
