Oberlin, Ohio - Andrew Fox poured in a season-high 22 points, but the rest of his teammates struggled from the field as the visiting Wittenberg Tigers left town with a 59-47 victory over the Yeomen on Monday night.
Fox finished 6-of-11 from the floor, which included a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. He also turned in his best free-throw shooting performance of the season as he was 5-of-6 at the stripe.
Geoff Simpson was the only other Yeomen in double figures as he chipped in with 11 points.
Oberlin had their second worst shooting performance of the season, finishing at just 30-percent with 15 makes on 50 attempts. On the other end the Tigers checked in at 53.5-percent on 23-of-43 shooting, marking the best percentage of any Yeomen opponent so far this season.
Despite the poor shooting, Oberlin got off to a fast start and quickly built up 10-2 lead just 4:30 into the game. Fox's fourth triple-hit (
Watch) in the first seven minutes gave Oberlin a 16-8 lead, but from that point on the Tigers would methodically work their way back into game before taking their first lead, 21-20, at the 5:11 mark. They would eventually take a 27-24 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half the Tigers came out hot and quickly extended their cushion out to nine, 36-27, just three minutes in. Oberlin would get the deficit back down to five, but eventually the Tigers would claim their first double-digit lead, 47-35, with 8:32 left to play and never look back.
The Tigers had two players finish with a double-double in the contest. Center Scott Masin dropped in 19 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, while Sam Collins added 14 points and 10 boards.
The Yeomen had a season-low six turnovers, but also had a season-low 17 rebounds as the Tigers finished with a 43-17 edge on the glass.
Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night when it travels to Allegheny for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
