Oberlin, Ohio- Junior
Karin Yoshida scored three goals en route to Oberlin College's 5-2 conference win over Earlham College on Sunday.
The Yeowomen jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first half. Oberlin's first goal came from the stick of Yoshida thanks to a double assist by sophomores
Rachel Zuckerman and
Claire Yeske.
Freshman
Taylor Swift also added a goal of her own from the right side to put Oberlin up 2-0. Swift then assisted Yoshida on the Yeowomen's third goal of the game. Zuckerman found the back of the net on an unassisted shot from the right side to put Oberlin up by four.
Oberlin controlled the rate of play early on, possessing the ball for the majority of the first half.
In the second half, Earlham responded with two goals to reduce the lead to two. However, with just over three minutes remaining in the game Yoshida put in her third goal to make the score 5-2 and was assisted by Swift, her second assist of the day.
Senior
Kiran Puri and sophomore
Carmen Azevedo split time in the cage and both finished with three saves. Puri recorded the win.
Also guarding the net, freshman Dyaami D'Orazio made a defensive save in the second half to prevent a Quaker score.
The Yeowomen led in shots with 18 to Earlham's 11, and edged Earlham out in penalty corners with 15 to the Quakers' 10.
Oberlin's next game is on September 20 when they travel to Wittenberg to take on the Tigers.
